The civilianisation of the immigration service at Dublin Airport will save the taxpayer around €3.5m once it is completed.

Introduced a year ago, the immigration process is now fully operated by civilians, rather than gardai, at Terminal 1.

Some 80 staff from the Department of Justice process arriving passengers at T1 and T2, where some gardai still work.
