RTE has appointed a new Director General.

Dee Forbes is currently President & Managing Director of Discovery Networks Northern Europe, and will leave the role to join RTE later this year.

She previously worked with a number of entertainment channels - including Cartoon Network, Boomerang and TCM.

Ms Forbes is the first Director General in almost 50 years to be appointed externally - she's also the first female to hold the role.
