One man has died and nine other people were injured following a shooting in New Orleans in the early hours of this morning.
The shooting happened shortly before 1.30am local time.
Officers attending the scene discovered nine victims suffering from gunshot wounds, while a 10th arrived at a local hospital later in the morning.
Eight men and two women were shot, with the victims aged between 20 and 37.
One of the men later died in hospital.
Police officers arrested two men - including one victim - at the scene for illegal carrying of weapons charges. Police say the second arrest was "an unrelated individual found to be in illegal possession of a handgun at the scene".
The shooting happened despite an increased police presence as crowds gathered for festivities for the Bayou Classic Weekend, a major annual college football game.
New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu took to Twitter to describe the shooting as 'unacceptable'.
Tonight's shooting was unacceptable. Police and EMS were on scene and responded fast. We will pursue this investigation aggressively. pic.twitter.com/veQx0nEBOC
