Superintendent Derek Smart is appealing for witnesses.

"Rose is a 78-year-old female, she was a widow living on her own on New Road in Thomondgate.

"She was very much a part of the community there, she was very much loved by the people around her and her family - she was a strong and independent woman.

"It is to that very community, and the wider community, that I am now appealing for any information that you may have in regard to how Rose came to what has happened to her.

"Again it's any information - even if you don't think it's relevant, let us decide how relevant it is.

"Just pick up the phone and call us.

"I think the community, as always in Limerick, will come together and I would appeal for them to just go that extra step and make the call".

Mayorstone gardaí can be contacted on 061-212-400 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800-666-111.
