Morning top 5: Storm Eva knocks out power and Santa is on his way

Over 6,000 homes are without power this morning as a result of Storm Eva.

High winds and heavy rain battered the country yesterday evening with counties Cork, Kildare and Wicklow worst affected.

While conditions will remain blustery for a while the storm is likely to clear by this afternoon.


24 people have died and more than 100 others have been injured in a fire at a hospital in southern Saudi Arabia.

Officials say it broke out in the intensive care and maternity units, but the cause is still being investigated.

The injured are being transferred to other hospitals. 


We can now stream any Beatles track - with the band's back catalogue now on several online services.

It was added to nine of them - including Spotify and Apple Music - overnight.

The 225 songs from their original 13 studio albums will even be available to those on free subscriptions. 



Families are apparently more likely to leave a glass of milk out for Santa than an alcoholic tipple.

A survey of 2,000 adults found almost a third will place a glass of milk next to the chimney tonight, with a fifth offering sherry.

Many of those polled said they would prefer to leave him chocolate or biscuits than a mince pie.


The US President and his deputy have revealed their favourite Christmas music on Spotify.

"O Tannenbaum" tops the list for Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle.

Meanwhile, Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, picked Bruce Springsteen's "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" as their first choice.
