A new poll has revealed the majority of Irish people feel daily laughter and a good bill of health are a truer indication of wealth than financial or a rewarding career.

The study of more than 2,000 Irish adults indicated that the majority feel a fulfilling sex life was ranked as the least important element of a 'rich life'.

The new piece of data was conducted by an Irish licenced lottery website.

The team polled 2,102 Irish adults - all of whom were aged 18 and over, worked in full-time employment and lived across an equal spread of the Irish regions.

Participants were initially asked if they considered themselves to have a 'rich life', with the vast majority - 76% - agreeing that they did.

Each respondent was then given a list of ten answers, and asked to rank the list in order of how important each was.

The answers were totalled and emerged as follows from most to least important:

  1. Daily laughter and fun
  2. Good health
  3. Unconditional love from family members and partners
  4. Long-lasting and genuine friendships
  5. Helping others in need/charitable work
  6. Education
  7. Rewarding career
  8. Money and savings in the bank
  9. Being able to travel and explore the world
  10. Fulfilling sex life

Those who ranked having money and savings in the bank within the bottom half of their important elements were asked to reveal why.

Some 84% agreed that money meant nothing without having love and laughter in life, and people to enjoy it with.

Nigel Birrell, CEO of lottoland.co.uk, said: "All too often people become so fixated on the notion that money equals happiness, and whilst of course it's fantastic to be able to afford lovely things for yourself and those around you, it seems that Irish people value their health and enjoyment over material goods."
