With RTÉ successfully transitioning First Dates across the Irish Sea from its home on Channel 4, TV3 has plans to get in on the action by bringing the popular TV-watching Gogglebox over here as well. At the station’s ambitious autumn schedule launch, it was revealed that comedian Deirdre O’Kane and Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan would take on the narrating duties, but now TV3 has just announced three of the Gogglebox households we’re hopefully be learning to love during the show’s 12-week initial run.

With the first episode set to start this Thursday at 9.30pm, TV3 is keeping most of the families under wraps for now, but the following three will be making an appearance – and hopefully making us laugh – as they cast a discerning eye over the last seven day’s telly on Irish screens.

Jamie, Lindsay, Ashley & Grainne

The first household comprises four Cabra girls, best friends who are all reality TV addicts. According to the Gogglebox producers, their ideal Friday night involves setting up on the couch for an evening of TV, chat, and a glass or two of white wine. Lindsay and Ashley are sisters, and spent their childhood growing up with Jamie, whose mother was their own’s best friend. Grainne joined the gang when she was 12 and the four have been inseparable ever since.

Szymon & Aga

Originally from Poland, this pair of best friends met in university 16 years ago and now share a home in Tallaght. Aga made the move to Ireland in 2004, completing her PhD at UCD. Szymon paid her a visit in 2007 for Halloween, falling in love with Ireland and settling down here.

The Gruffertys

[TV3]

Hailing from Co Kildare, parents Laura and Des met when Des walked into Laura’s hairdressers for a trim and left with a new haircut and a phone number. Fourteen years later and the pair has built a family together, with four kids living in Athy. An award-winning business woman, Laura runs a local salon while Des is the primary carer at home, taking care of their children and two Jack Russell dogs. Laura and Des will share their Gogglebox duties with their oldest child, 12-year-old Danielle.
