The Marriage Equality referendum, Home to Vote and Yes Equality were the biggest Irish news trends on Twitter this year.
In the 36 hours alone after polling opened on May 22nd, there were 400,000 tweets sent with #MarRef.
There were also 72,000 #hometovote tweets, when Irish emigrants shared their experience of returning home for the ballot - with the first tweet sent from a train to Holyhead.
In terms of global news, the Greek crisis, Paris terror attacks and the Charlie Hebdo shooting were the most popular trends in Ireland.
The most discussed TV in Ireland was the Vincent Browne Show and the Late Late, with Irish Water and October's budget dominating the political spectrum.
2015 was also the year of the emoji, with the 'tears of joy' face being the most popular.
Another of the year's biggest phenomena hit Twitter between February 26 and 27: The blue-black/white-gold dress that launched a remarkable 4.4 million tweets.
