Revenue officers have seized 22,000 smuggled cigarettes from a passenger at Dublin Airport.

The Lithuanian man was stopped and questioned yesterday after landing in Ireland from Sweden.

He was found to be carrying contraband cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €11,400 in his luggage.

Revenue estimated that the smuggled Marlboro Gold goods would have cost the exchequer around €9,100 in lost taxes.

The 45-year-old was arrested and brought before Judge Grainne O'Neill, who remanded him in custody until next Tuesday.
