A 37-year-old man has been jailed for twelve months for causing €15,000 worth of criminal damage to his flat.

Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard how Robert Kummer from Germany had stored hundreds of bags of his own excrement and hundreds of bottles of his own urine at the property over a three month period.

The authorities were alerted in September 2013, when a neighbour became concerned about the smell emanating from the property in Cork city centre.

A psychiatrist told Judge Sean O'Donnabhain that while Kummer might have sufferd from "depressive episodes", he was "at a loss" to explain the behaviour.
