A funeral takes place today for Christy Byrne, who died after a fire on board an ambulance at Naas General Hospital.

The 78-year-old from Suncroft in The Curragh died at the scene on Thursday.

The Health Service Executive is examining the possibility that the fire may have been caused by an oxygen canister.

Two paramedics were injured in the fire - but both have since been discharged from hospital.

Mr Byrne will be laid to rest following 2.00pm requiem mass in St Brigid's Church in The Curragh.
