A man has received knife wounds to his face after being attacked by a group of youths in County Louth.

Gardaí are investigating the assault that occurred at 10:45pm last night in Cloonanna, Knockbridge, County Louth.

The man - aged in his 40s - was confronted by the group as he left a pub in the area.

He received facial injuries caused by a knife in the altercation and was taken to hospital where he received a number of stitches.

The scene was preserved and gardaí are viewing CCTV footage from the area as part of their investigations.
