Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Ballymun garda station on 01-666-4400, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800-666-111, or any garda station.

Crime Correspondent with the Irish Daily Star, Michael O'Toole, says although the investigation is in its early stages it seems to be related to the Kinahan-Hutch feud.

"Although the man is not a member of the Hutch family, he would be a very close associate of several memebrs of that family.

"He has been long a target of the Kinahan gang since its feud erupted in February 2016.

"We know, for example, that he survived another murder bid earlier this year".

Superintendent Finbarr Murphy says the car used in the shooting has been found.
