An Irishman has lost his appeal against the decision to extradite him to the US on charges of advertising and distributing child pornography.

Eric Eoin Marques is accused of setting up a hosting site that allowed over 100 hundred websites post videos and images of child abuse.

Mr Marques has been in custody since August 2013, when he was arrested at his apartment on Mountjoy Square in Dublin city.

FBI Special Agent Brooke Donahue travelled to Ireland and told the High Court he is suspected of being "the world's largest facilitator of child porn".

His extradition was approved this time last year, but not executed to allow him time to appeal.

He appealed the decision not to prosecute him here and fought his extradition on many grounds.

These included the possibility of spending the rest of his life in a foreign prison if he is convicted - an unacceptable sentencing regime, he argued, and one he claimed was a flagrant denial of justice.

The Court of Appeal ruled against him today and a further stay has been put on his extradition to allow him decide if he wants to take his case to the Supreme Court.
