A 26-year-old man has been charged with a terror offence after an incident involving a sword near Buckingham Palace in London.

It is alleged Mohiussunnath Choudhury drove a car at police outside the palace before reaching for the 4ft weapon shortly after 8.30pm on Friday.

Three officers suffered minor injuries.

Choudhury, from Luton, is accused of engaging in the preparation to commit an act or acts of terrorism last Friday.

He is due before Westminster Magistrates' Court later on Thursday.

Another man, 30, who was questioned by counter-terrorism police in connection with the same incident faces no further action.

No members of the British royal family were in residence at the time of the incident, with Queen Elizabeth currently on her annual Scottish break at Balmoral.
