Gardaí have arrested a man following an attempted armed robbery at a post office in Waterford yesterday.
The robbery took place at approximately 3.15pm, when two masked man entered the premises with what appeared to be a firearm. They threatened staff and a member of the public, but fled the scene empty handed.
The man, in his mid 30s, was arrested last night in the Ardkeen area following a surveillance operation. He is currently detained at Waterford Station at Section 30 Offences against the State Act, 1939.
A car, which is believed to be connected to the incident, has been seized.
