Any children and teenagers with a Child Leap Card will be able to travel for free on public transport for a fortnight, the Transport Minister has announced.

The free travel for those aged between 4 and 18 will apply from the 25th July until the 7th August.

It is aimed at encouraging children, teenagers and families to use public transport more during the summer holidays.

Dublin Bus, Luas, DART and Commuter Rail services in the capital are among those included in the offer.

The free travel will also apply to Bus Éireann services with Leap Card validators - which include routes in Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Galway and Waterford.

Minister Shane Ross described the free travel promotion as a 'fantastic initiative'.

Anne Graham, CEO of the National Transport Authority, said: “Over the summer, we hope as many families as possible go to town to experience all that our fantastic cities have to offer during the holiday season.

"This promotion doesn’t just apply to Dublin – the historic cities of Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford are also included in the fortnight’s free travel for children with Leap Cards," she added.
