A judge in Brazil has accepted charges against former Olympic Council of Ireland president Pat Hickey.

Mr Hickey, THG Sports director Kevin Mallon and eight others are accused of charges including ticket touting, money laundering, false marketing and tax evasion.

In a ruling published last night, Judge Juliana Leal de Melo accepted the recommendation put forward by a public prosecutor in Rio.

The other co-defendants have been named as David Patrick Gilmore, Michael Glynn, Ken Murray, Eamonn Collins, Maarten Van Os, Marcus Paul Evans, Martin Studd and Barbara Zancope Carnieri.

None of them are not believed to be in the country. 

Mr Hickey and Mr Mallon, who will now stand trial, were released from prison on bail last month. They both deny any wrongdoing.

The court ordered the accused to present themselves to the headquarters of the Juvenile Court on the 20th day of every month. They remain forbidden from leaving the country.

The magistrate also retained their passports and enforced a 10pm curfew.

Any breach of their house arrest conditions could result in their return to jail, the judge warned. 

The two men are furthermore banned from attending any Paralympic events. 

The case is not expected to be heard in court for several months.
