US Vice President Joe Biden arrives in Ireland for six-day visit

US Vice President Joe Biden has arrived in Dublin at the start of a six-day visit to Ireland.

While here, he will participate in bilateral meetings with Taoiseach Enda Kenny and President Michael D Higgins, and visit his ancestral homes in Mayo and Louth.

The American-born Democrat will also deliver remarks on the Irish-American experience - and the values of tolerance, diversity and inclusiveness.

Mr Kenny welcomed him at Government Buildings tonight, and presented him with a hurley and sliotar.

Tomorrow afternoon, Mr Biden and Mr Kenny will be making stops in several towns in Mayo, and visiting points of significance.

On Thursday morning, the vice president will play a round of golf there with Mr Kenny, before departing for Dublin. He is due to deliver addresses at Dublin Castle and Trinity College on Friday. 

Mr Biden will tour Newsgrange on Saturday morning before heading to Co Louth, where he will visit the Kilwirra church and cemetery. He will fly back to Washington DC the following day.
