Ireland's oldest man has passed away in Co Roscommon at the age of 108.

Luke Dolan was not only Ireland's oldest man, but the only man in Ireland to have reached that age.

He was born in 1906 and lived all his life on the family farm in Strokestown.

He turned 108 in June at the Cloverhill Nursing Home.

Mr Dolan was one of seven children - and most of his siblings lived into their 90s.

His sister, Mary Kate, lived to the age of 106 in the United States.

Roscommon is also home to Michael Lambert (106), who up to now has been Ireland's second oldest man.
