Ireland is well-placed to be a major part of a future 'digital Europe', according to IBEC's Head of Digital Policy.

The Digital Single Market is worth €415 billion to the European economy, boosting jobs, growth, competition, investment and innovation. The business group IBEC says we have a good chance of being a part of that.

EU Commissioner Vera Jourová is currently visiting Ireland and is due to take part in meetings with tech industry representatives here.

IBEC's Head of Digital Policy, Eric O'Donovan, says it's a unique opportunity to showcase Irish talent.

Speaking to Newstalk he said: "We would expect the discussion to be in around trying to get the conditions right for investment in secure digital innovation, data protection, [this] means getting the conditions right for investment in e-commerce."

"Ireland is actually among the top countries in the EU in adopting digital and e-commerce [initiatives] but there's a lot more to be done," he added.
