Justice Minister and Tanaiste Frances Fitzgerald, says An Garda Siochana has the full support of the new government.

She was speaking at an official memorial for deceased members of An Garda Siochana, which was opened in Dubhlinn Gardens on the grounds of Dublin Castle in 2010.

The ceremony remembered the 88 members of An Garda Síochána who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan laid wreaths at the annual event at Dublin Castle, as did Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald.

"I want to assure you that this Government will continue to support Garda Siochana in every possible way as it goes about the business of protecting the State and its citizens," the Tánaiste said.

"I would like to thank all who arranged this day, and to maintain this beautiful garden, as a tribute befitting of our heroes."

The event also saw the family of Garda Tony Golden receive a medal in his honour.

Garda Golden was shot dead while responding to a domestic dispute in Co Louth in October of last year.

Mr Kenny said the death of Garda Golden had an impact on the country as a whole.

Members also marched in a Guard of Honour to remember those who died in the line of duty.
