Garda appeal for witnesses after man is knocked down while cycling home

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after a cyclist was struck by a car in Dublin over the weekend.

The 26-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the incident on Strand Road in Baldoyle at around 12.45am on Saturday.

The driver of the car, described as a black Volvo S.40 model with an 07-D registration, failed to stop at the scene.

Gardaí said the vehicle came down the Strand Road in the direction of Baldoyle main street and cyclist while he was travelling home from work.

The man was knocked to the ground and taken with serious leg injuries to Beaumont Hospital, where he continues to be treated.

The car travelled along Strand Road onto Baldoyle main street before turning left onto Moyne Road and left again into the Castlemoyne estate, where it was abandoned.

Its two front tyres had blown out and the car was being driven on rims at the time it was abandoned.
