Gardaí believe they have foiled an attempted gangland shooting in Dublin.

Four men were arrested last night for conspiracy to murder, and a gun and a silencer were seized.

These arrests are being described as very significant and it’s believed the men have links to the Kinahan crime gang.

Two of the men were picked up in Fairview on Dublin’s northside last night, where the gun and silencer were also recovered.

The other two men were arrested around the same time in the south inner city.

The four men - aged 23, 35, 37 and 38 years - are being held at different Garda stations in Dublin.

Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll said it marked "a significant additional achievement in An Garda Síochána’s ongoing and unrelenting effort to tackle organised crime and, in particular, the total disregard for human life exhibited by the criminals involved".
