A Fox News host who shot to prominence during the recent US presidential election is leaving the network for rival, NBC.

Megyn Kelly made the announcement on her Facebook page.

"I have decided to end my time at (Fox News Channel), incredibly enriched for the experiences I've had.

"I have agreed to join NBC News, where I will be launching a new daytime show Monday through Friday, along with a Sunday evening news magazine program", she said.

Kelly says she will also participate in breaking news, political and special events coverage on the network.

"While I will greatly miss my colleagues at Fox, I am delighted to be joining the NBC News family and taking on a new challenge," she adds.

Kelly joined Fox News in 2004, and has hosted 'The Kelly File' since October 2013.

She gained prominance during the US president election, with her and Donald Trump seeming to butt heads several times.

Mr Trump was also criticised for making explicit comments in relation to Ms Kelly during the campaign.
