A robust, engaging web presence is crucial for any media brand; that includes the production and publication of daily news updates, original written content, as well as interactive media. It is the digital news journalist’s role to create audience-targeted content across media types and web platforms, the primary objective being to drive increased traffic and brand visibility.  

The right candidate will be a versatile journalist. S/he should possess all the abilities to write and edit quickly, concisely, accurately, and in a way that engages our audience. S/he will have demonstrated the ability to distil longer form journalism into great headlines and enticing social media conversations.

About the role

Reporting to the Digital Editor, the Digital News Journalist will be responsible for developing news content that keeps our audience up to date and informed.  S/he will have the ability to break news across multiple channels, follow and chase a story and conduct independent investigation. Under the direction of the Digital Editor, the journalist will allocate time to creating original news content. 

As well as having an extensive understanding of news and current affairs, the Digital News Journalist is required to have proficiency in creating digital content formats, the role of distribution channels, analytics and SEO.  The candidate will be an enthusiastic, self-starter with ability to seek out stories and use their expertise to analyse and optimally deliver the talking points of the day.

Role requirements

• Ability to produce high quality, multi-format work in a collaborative environment
• High journalistic and ethical standards ensuring accuracy and fairness
• Strong copy editing skills
• Ability to create compelling headlines
• Strong analytics and experience in SEO
• Proven understanding of the distribution process around creating great content
• 2+ years journalistic experience
