At least 19 killed following explosions in Afghanistan

At least 19 people have been killed in explosions at the funeral of a politician's son who died in violent clashes in the Afghan capital Kabul.

The series of blasts happened as government officials - and reportedly members of parliament - were attending the burial of Mohammad Salim Ezadyar.

Wahid Mujro, spokesman for the Public Health ministry, said that three explosions rocked the cemetery. 

The Taliban has denied involvement and blamed rivalries in the government.

Varadkar begins discussions with party colleagues

Leo Varadkar is today beginning discussions with party colleagues, as he prepares to take over from Enda Kenny as Taoiseach.

The new Fine Gael leader is expected to contact Simon Coveney who he beat by a margin of 60-40 in yesterday's count.

They are expected to discuss the future of Fine Gael and the role that Coveney will play in government. 

He's also due to reach out to Fianna Fail to reaffirm the "confidence and supply agreement" which currently underpins the minority government, but he's been adamant that he will not renegotiate it.

Three remain in custody following seizure of "significant amount" of explosives in Dublin

Three men remain in custody after a “significant amount” of suspected explosives were discovered in a car in Dublin yesterday.

A number of roads were closed after gardaí discovered the explosives during a search of a car on Spring Garden Street, Ballybough at around 6pm on Friday.

The army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to the scene.

The recovered plastic explosives and a detonator are being analysed by forensic experts.

Ariana Grande makes surprise visit to fans in hospital

Ariana Grande has made a surprise visit to children recovering from the Manchester terror attack.

The singer made her return to the city on Friday morning as she is due to play a benefit concert in the city on Sunday night. 

A number of big names are taking part in the One Love Manchester concert including Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Niall Horan. 

During her visit to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Ariana surprised a number of fans who were overjoyed to see her.

Real Madrid overcome Juventus to win 12th Champions League

Real Madrid have beaten Juventus 4-1 to retain the Champions League Final at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Cristiano Ronaldo added another two goals to his Champions League goal haul as Real Madrid ran out comfortable winners.

The Portuguese talisman was named man of the match after scoring two goals and becoming the first player to score in three finals.

It means further heartbreak for Juventus following a hugely impressive first half - with the Italian giants having now lost the past four Champions League finals they have contested.
