Three children airlifted to hospital after fire at Cork home

Three small children have been airlifted to hospital after a fire at their home in west Cork.

The incident happened at around 6pm this evening in the Drinagh area.

It is understood a petrol canister exploded in the garden of the family home, burning two five-month-old twin babies and an 18-month-old toddler.


Michael Noonan to appear before Dáil committee to discuss Project Eagle sale

Minister for Finance Michael Noonan has confirmed he will appear before the Dáil's Public Accounts Committee to discuss NAMA's sale of Project Eagle. 

In a statement this evening, Mr Noonan said he had accepted the committee's invitation to assist its examination of the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) report into the deal. 

It comes after repeated calls by opposition leaders for him explain his knowledge of the transaction.


Gardaí use Taser, pepper spray and flash bangs during Cork hostage situation

One of two men arrested after a couple were held hostage in Cork has been charged over the incident. 

A Taser, pepper spray and flash bangs were deployed after armed officers forcefully entered the building shortly after 8am. 

The house on St Mary's Avenue was cordoned off as negotiators tried to make contact with the two men inside the house. 


UN suspends aid to Syria after airstrike on convoy

All aid convoys in Syria have been suspended after a deadly attack that hit at least 18 trucks carrying supplies, the UN has said.

The organisation claimed the attack in rebel-held Urm al Kubra could amount to a war crime if it was deliberate.

A spokesman for the United Nations humanitarian aid agency said the temporary suspension of aid would stay in force while the security situation was reviewed in Syria.

Angelina Jolie has filed for dissolution of her marriage to husband Brad Pitt, according to a lawyer for the actress.

Robert Offer said in a statement that her decision had been made "for the health of the family".

The actress cited irreconcilable differences with Pitt, listing their date of separation as 15 September.
