Euromillions players are being urged to check their tickets after it was announced that Friday’s massive jackpot was won in Ireland.

A spokesperson for the National Lottery said it is still not known exactly where the ticket was sold.

It is unclear whether the €28.9m winning ticket was bought by an individual or a syndicate – with speculation over the identity of the country’s newest millionaires on the rise.

The win is the 11th on these shores since the game was launched in 2004 – bringing the Irish winnings total to over €1bn.

The most recent Jackpot winner was a Dublin work syndicate who shared an €88.5 million jackpot in January.

The winning numbers are 11, 20, 35, 37, 45 and the bonus numbers are 3 and 6.

“We are absolutely delighted that the jackpot has been won by an Irish player,” said National Lottery Chief Executive, Dermot Griffin.

“What a great way to start the weekend. This is a life-changing amount of money.”

Mr Griffin said one third of all National Lottery sales go to good causes around Ireland.
