Taoiseach Enda Kenny and US vice president-elect Mike Pence have spoken on the phone tonight.
The Taoiseach expressed his intention to engage positively with the new administration on a number of issues.
Mr Kenny also raised the issue of the undocumented Irish in the US - and expressed his determination to work on a solution to the issue.
In a statement, Mr Kenny says Mr Pence expressed an in-depth understanding of Irish and Irish/American issues during a conversation that lasted 15 minutes.
