A woman in her 80s has died in a fire in Cork city.

The blaze happened at a house on Model Farm Road at around 9.30pm last night.

Several units of Cork City Fire Brigade responded to the fire, along with gardaí and the ambulance services.

The woman's body has been removed to Cork University Hospital.

Gardaí have preserved the scene for a technical examination, and the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
