Gardaí are appealing for information after a serious collision in Co Monaghan last night.

A 74-year-old man sustained serious injuries when he was struck by a car on a road at Bough, near Scotstown.

The man was taken to Cavan General Hospital, where his condition is understood to be critical.

The driver of the car - a man in his 20s - was not injured.

Garda forensic investigators are at the scene and local traffic diversions are in place.
