Eight enforcement orders were served on food businesses last month, according to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).
A Sligo takeaway, a caterer in Dublin, and a supermarket in Dublin were among the businesses affected.
Five closure orders were served under the 1998 FSAI Act:
- Maid of Erin (public house) (Closed area: food preparation area and activities; not including the service of drinks in the bar), 9/10 Church Street, Tipperary Town, Tipperary
- Flanreil Food Services Ltd (caterer), Kitchen and associated storage facilities occupied by Flanreil Food Services Ltd in O'Dwyers Public House, Strand Road, Portmarnock, Co Dublin
- Tasty Bite (takeaway), Main Street, Manorcunningham, Donegal
- Tropica Asian Street Food (restaurant), 4-6 Westbourne Terrace, Quinsboro Road, Bray, Wicklow
- Zam Zam Kebab House & Takeaway, 30-31 High Street, Sligo
Two further closure orders served under EC regulations:
- Londis (supermarket), (Closed Area: The basement food production kitchen only), 1-2, Atrium Building Carmenhall Road, Sandyford, Dublin 18
- Yo & More (Closed Area: Use of rear store/kitchen for production & storage of food & food related items), The Pavilions Shopping Centre, Swords, Co. Dublin
Meanwhile, a prohibition order was served on the Kokoro Sushi takeaway at Unit N, Liffey Trust Centre, 117-126 Sheriff Street Upper, Dublin 1.
FSAI chief executive Dr Pamela Byrne said it was 'unfortunate' to see such a high number of enforcement orders in May.
She observed: "Food safety legislation sets standards which food businesses must adhere to and there can be no shortcuts when it comes to ensuring the protection of consumer health.
"It is of paramount importance that all food businesses must operate stringent food safety practices in order to ensure the food they are producing and selling to their customers is safe to eat."
