Ecstasy tablets with an estimated street value of €50,000 have been seized in Galway.

The find was made as part of ongoing joint investigations targeting drug trafficking.

It resulted in the identification and interception of a number of consignments of ecstasy tablets.

A subsequent search on Friday resulted in the seizure of approximately 4,000 tablets and a small quantity herbal cannabis.

The drugs were believed to be destined for the Galway 'Rag Week' market.

Two men aged in their early 20s have been arrested.

Joint investigations are continuing domestically and internationally.

The two suspects are detained at Galway garda station, Mill Street under the Criminal Justice Act.

Revenue's Customs Drugs Law Enforcement and the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau were supported by officers from the Galway regional drugs unit.
