Disability campaigners are calling for a full cabinet minister to deal with the sector.

With the election now just weeks away, all political parties are being asked to publish their plans for services for people with disabilities.

The Disability Federation of Ireland says it wants to see clear policies from all election manifestos.

The organisation says it will be "very disappointed" if Micheál Martin ignores the "600,000 Irish people living with a disability" in his address at Fianna Fáil's Ard Fheis later today.

Spokesperson John Dolan says they have waited for more than 20 years for parties to fulfil commitments to allow people with disabilities to live ordinary lives.
