Questions were asked about whether Joan Burton would take a hop off the opposition, would there be a stout defence of their time in government and could Labour really organise a piss up in a brewery?

Instead they announced the lofty target of getting a job for everyone who wants one by 2018.

The Tanaiste said she’s confident that there will be a boost in support for Labour in the last week of the campaign, clearly hoping that this morning’s opinion poll was a hoptical illusion. (Okay, I'll stop now.)

One who didn’t look quite so happy during all this was Senator Mary Moran, who sat on stage with Ms Burton and Ged Nash for 35 minutes without being asked to speak.

You’ll see plenty of candidates hovering behind the party leaders in the hope of getting the 30 seconds of TV fame that will win them the election.

But Moran was having none of it. “I’m not a token candidate” she says as Labour flunkies stare on in silent anger at the protesting Senator.

A traditional Fine Gael pub was the spot for lunch, as the Tanaiste dined in Monasterboice Inn – owned by the family of former Defence Minister Paddy Donegan.

Mr Donegan is probably best known for calling President Cearbhall O’Dalaigh “a thundering disgrace” – leading to the 5th President’s resignation.

Words as strong as that have been in short supply on the campaign trail so far - with Joan Burton’s media plan keeping her far away from any dissenting voices.

Only time will tell if she’ll need another trip to the brewery on February 27th.
