'Community service for offenders doesn't work' - John Cuffe

The former prison officer joined George Hook on High Noon today.

'One of the problems is that if community service is too hard, offenders don’t turn up to do it.'

That's the view of John Cuffe, as he reacted today to Britain’s most senior judge saying that community service is not hard enough, stating that offenders view non-jail sentences as ‘getting off’ free.

Cuffe said community service just doesn't work, and offenders just don't see it as a deterrant.

Another big problem is that if the terms of community service aren’t working, it’s then too hard to go back through the justice system and change the terms.
