Breakthrough: Media Moments That Changed The World - How Jade Goody got life-changing news, live of Big Brother

Jack Murray of tells Ciara about the time Jade Goody went the Big Brother India house and got some awful news

Jade Goody was born in Bermondsey, London, to Jackiey Budden and Andrew Goody. Her father was a drug addict and criminal who had spent time in prison. He and Jade’s mother Jackiey separated when Jade was 2.

Jade lived in Essex and worked as a dental nurse before entering the UK Big Brother house in 2002. Jade made tabloid headlines quickly – her lack of general knowledge made her the centre of attention. This preception would follow her through her career even after her time in the Big Brother house ended.

Unlike most Big Brother housemates, Jade’s stardom lasted much longer the than the usual 15 seconds. She appeared in her own reality TV shows and, regularly, in women’s gossip magazines.

On 16 January 2007, this Big Brother series had attracted the largest ever number of public complaints about concerns that housemate Shilpa Shetty had been subjected to bullying. Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara's behaviour towards Shetty sparked widespread anger and demonstrations in India, where the alleged racism was reported on the news.

Three days later, Jade was evicted with 82% of the public vote.

Jade kept away from the public eye for many months following, but in 2008 decided she needed to right her wrongs and a trip to India and an appearance on Bigg Boss would do just that.

Unfortunately, this trip also wouldn’t go to plan. Jade was on her second day in the Bigg Boss house when she was called to the diary room and given life-changing news.
