Boojum is opening its first restaurant in Cork, taking over the premises of Italian restaurant Gino's on Winthrop Street.

The chain, which already has burrito bars in Dublin and Belfast, is expected to open in January and is looking to recruit over 30 people.

Owner David Maxwell has said:  “Cork has been on the Boojum radar for some time. We just wanted to wait until we found the perfect location. We will be running a recruitment drive in the next few weeks to staff the store, bringing upwards of 30 new jobs to the city.”

Maxwell said they are also looking at offering a delivery option in the future.

The two floors of Gino's will be converted into a Boojum, after almost 26 years in business in Cork. The venue first opened in the summer of 1990. It was a sister venue to a similar pizza restaurant in Waterford.

A sign on the store said they were sad to be finished in Cork but thanked their customers.
