He was taken to Beaumont Hospital with non life threatening injuries. Nobody else is believed to have been injured.

Shortly after the incident, a partially burnt out blue BMW saloon - partial registration 02 C - was discovered at nearby Greenwood Walk.

A second car - a black coloured Volkswagon Golf with partial registration 99 C - was later found near Shamrock Cottages in the North Strand area.

Both vehicles were seized for technical examination, and the scenes have been preserved.

The culprit is described as being a young man and 5'7" in height.

He is said to have been wearing a balaclava, a navy coloured hooded top, black gloves and black runners.

Two cars have been seized as part of the investigation and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Coolock Garda Station on 01-666-4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111, or any Garda station.
