Disney originally brought us the 1977 animated musical version, too
In a summer that already appears to be jam-packed end-to-end with potentially huge blockbusters, another one has just arrived on the horizon.
Disney have released the first teaser-trailer for Pete's Dragon, which is set to be released in Irish cinemas on August 12th.
From director David Lowry (Ain't Them Bodies Saints), starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford, Wes Bentley and Karl Urban, it tells the story of Pete, a young boy discovered in the nearby forest, who appears to have survived alone there for the past six years.
However, according to Pete, he wasn't alone - he was accompanied by his best friend Elliott, who also happens to be a green-and-purple dragon.
For those who are thinking that this all sounds a little familiar, that's because it was also a partly-animated Disney movie back in 1977 (trailer below), starring Mickey Rooney and Shelley Winters. However, whereas that take was very OTT and aimed at young kids, this new adaptation of same short story by S.S. Field and Seton I. Miller appears to be taking on the more somber tone of the likes of Where The Wild Things Are and Super 8.
