Making a Murderer is the ten-part documentary streamed by Netflix that has become a global phenomenon - and on Friday morning one of its stars will speak exclusively to Newstalk.

If you haven’t seen the show yet you have no doubt felt surrounded by talk of it online, among your friends or in the workplace – it has been as unavoidable for non-watchers as it has been unmissable for its legions of followers, around the globe.

Debate still rages about the case of Steven AveryMaking a Murderer has become so popular that it even sparked a petition that garnered enough signatures to force the White House to respond.

Filmed over a ten-year period the series follows the real-life story of Steven Avery - a man exonerated by DNA after 18 years in prison.

Avery went on to face another trial in 2007 – this time for the murder of Teresa Halbach.

The ensuing trial has become the basis of Making a Murderer, and Avery’s lawyers in that trial have become globally recognised names since the show’s release.

One of those men, Jerry Buting, will speak to Newstalk Breakfast on Friday morning, in his first interview with Irish national media, giving us an insider's insight into the trial.

To keep you going until then, we have a preview of Ivan speaking with Jerry Buting. Tune in tomorrow morning to Newstalk Breakfast for the full interview.
