WATCH: Check out a clip from upcoming Oscar favourite 'Spotlight'

The journalism drama is out in Irish cinemas on January 29th

Awards season is in full swing, and one of the films emerging as a favourite in the lead-up to the Oscars is Spotlight.

From director and co-writer Tom McCarthy (who previously made the acclaimed likes of The Station Agent and The Visitor), Spotlight is based on the true story of a group of Boston Globe reporters who exposed a global cover-up by the Catholic Church of child abuse perpetrated by more than 70 local priests.

The ensemble cast has won particular praise following the film's US release. The cast is led by Liev Schreiber and Michael Keaton (confidently following on from his big comeback role in Birdman), and also features the likes of Rachel McAdams, Mark Ruffalo and Stanley Tucci.

The film has picked up three Golden Globe Award nominations, as well as dozens of accolades from critics.

It's out in Irish cinemas on January 29th.
