Drama on Newstalk: The Seat

An original Newstalk Drama on the race for a Dáil seat in a small Irish town…

The Seat is a comedy-drama, structured in mockumentary form, following the campaigns of three candidates running for a Dáil by-election in Louth. Produced by Dogwhistles Production Company, the story is told by young documentarian, Justin McMahon, as he follows and interviews Eithne Harrington, Gary Collins and Paddy Fitzgibbon on the road to the election.

The Seat is a fictional look at three Irish political hopefuls that quickly turns into an exploration of hopeless Irish politics. Teacher Eithne Harrington is blighted by nervousness and personal issues, Paddy Fitzgibbon can't seem to get over his sporting days and treats politics like a game while Northern candidate Gary Collins struggles to prove the legality of his campaign and tries to answer questions about his shadowy past.

The Seat is the product of two new Irish voices in comedy and drama; Conor McGinnity, producer and writer, and Cormac McAdam, director and co-writer. Featuring voice talents Shane Cumiskey as Justin, Paul Magee as Paddy, Gabrielle Tuomey as Eithne and Fergus Mullen as Gary, The Seat is a tongue in cheek look at small town attitudes towards governance. If this were somewhere else, we'd march in protest but we're Irish, so we laugh.
