Barcelona played out a draw in a Catalan derby
Brazilian and Barcelona star Neymar was in action for the Spanish club when he and a number of Barcelona players were said to have been taunted when in possession.
The incident is reported to have happened during a 0-0 draw against Espanyol on Saturday.
Reports suggest that chants from the opposition fans were used to target Neymar, Lionel Messi and others. A former member of the Barcelona board tweeted after the game:
"I trust that the racist chants which Neymar was subjected to have been carefully noted in the referee's report."
Ronaldinho: "Neymar is a great player and he will be the face of Brazil for plenty of seasons to come."! pic.twitter.com/mCBoKiHGQN— Neymar Jr. (@NeyMarvellous) January 3, 2016
Speaking after the game, Andres Iniesta added further credence to these claims when he revealed that he heard similar derisive comments ''in one corner, in the first half, from one supporter.''
The other players alleged to have been targeted during the game include Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique.
After the game, the Barcelona manager Luis Enrique refused to dwell on the reports and said:
"The only thing that interests me is what is happening out on the pitch. If I start giving opinions one way or another, I'll get hit from all sides – mind you, I get hit from all sides even when I don't say anything."
