The West Ham star has impressed in England this season
West Ham's Dmitri Payet has been one of the stars of the Premier League season that has seen many previously unsung names become stars this season.
The French midfielder has lit up games all around England since joining the London side from Marseille in the summer. Last weekend he starred in West Ham's FA Cup win over Blackburn.
Payet has played 15 times for France, with his last game for Les Bleus coming last summer. He has not played for Didier Deschamps' side since arriving in the Premier League.
Ben Lyttleton spoke to Off the Ball on Monday night about Payet's international future and he is unsure whether the West Ham player will feature at Euro 2016. Lyttleton has also written about Payet's future earlier this week.
Deschamps spoke on French television on Sunday night and stated that Payet has been in excellent form for West Ham but it has not transferred to the national team. The French manager has been to many tournaments as a manager and player and Lyttleton feels that Deschamps will want harmony in the squad.
"What he is looking for is probably 18 players that are likely to get game time, but then the other five will be good guys to have around, that obviously have the ability, but will sit on the bench and cheer their teammates. I don't feel that Deschamps thinks that Payet is that type of guy."
Lyttleton compared Payet's situation to Crystal Palace's Yohan Cabaye. Payet spoke publicly about being left out of a squad, while Cabaye was also dropped from the team but has kept quiet. According to Lyttleton, Cabaye will be in this summer's squad without the West Ham star.
France's Euro 2016 preparations begin in March when the play the Netherlands and Russia in the space of five days. Whether Payet will be part of that squad remains to be seen.
