Ireland lock Mike McCarthy says the team have spoken about the need to set a better tone in the scrum against France.

The second row spoke to Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre and the waiting press after today's pre-Six Nations fixture training session.

"We problem-solved and the scrums were a lot better after half-time, so obviously you always want to set the tone in that first scrum and paint a good picture to the referee. We've spoken about the scrum, it's a work-on and fingers crossed the first scrum of the game we do paint that picture to the ref," he said.

The Leinster player also talked about how France's approach to the scrum will differ from that posed by Wales on last Sunday.

"They're a lot bigger and a lot heavier, so we can't switch off for a minute and they've got a lot of weight behind them, so we've going to have to have very good body position."
