John Giles believes Louis van Gaal's "fat man" comment to a journalist yesterday was "crazy stuff".

The Manchester United manager had a go at a reporter from The Sun as he left a press conference after being angered by media criticism of his striker Wayne Rooney.

Chatting to Off The Ball tonight, Leeds and Ireland legend John says he is bemused by the Dutchman's behaviour.

"I find him amazing. Last week he was on about the supporters leaving early maybe to miss the traffic. He doesn't seem to realise that Manchester United are not playing well. The glass seems to be overflowing with him all the time and even after the Newcastle match, he said 'it's our own fault, we should have had the game wrapped up, we could have scored six' and I think it was Paul Scholes who said 'Newcastle could've had six,'" said John.

"And then having a go on a personal level to one of the journalists, it's crazy stuff really."

John added that Van Gaal can be a "weird guy the way he behaves with the press and in the after-match comments that he makes. I just can't make him out."
