This is a glorious white wine from the Valpolicella Region, on the hills over looking the vast and beautiful Lake Garda. Normally therefore more associated in our minds with Amarone this white wine is called Lugana after the little village where the wines hail from. It is made from the Trebbiano di Lugana grape which offers a palate that is part Alsace, part Macon, all Verona. Mouth-watering golden green pear flesh, envelopes, soft baked apple tones, over a lifting silky mid palate that twits into a pinpoint focused and clean finish.

The Bierzo Region of North Western Spain is right on the edge of green and moist Galicia. This wine is made from the ultra fashionable Mencia grape, making wines as here compared to young Pinot Noir. The winemaker and owner here is Jose Manuel Núñez Cerezales who is the fourth generation of his family who are grape growers in Bierzo.

Bodegas La Serrana, Bagante Blanco Godello, DO Bierzo 2015

Pricing : around €15.95

Available from: Cases.ie, Galway with free delivery nationwide on all orders over €100 and selected independents and off licences nationwide

This is the white wine of the immensely hip Bierzo region and is made from the local varietal Godello, the cool climate, in this northerly and mountainous part of Spain offer  a delicious crisp, very lean and well defined lemon and floral wash and with a lean evolving and mouth-watering finish. A wine that migh tappeal to Sauvignon Blanc and Rielsing lovers and very well priced for its ambition.
