'The problem is, children don't see why they're doing it. They're intimidated by it'

Peter Lynch tells George why our children should be excited by mathematics, and want to be good at it.

This week is Maths Week 2016, and to mark it, George Hook invited author of 'That's Maths' Peter Lynch onto 'High Noon' to talk about the virtues of learning mathematics.

Peter advised that 'not everyone gets a good maths teacher...the key for children is motivation.  They need to know why they're doing it'.

As George pointed out that kids often just use their phones to work sums out, Peter also made the point that if young people were told how much mathematical knowledge is needed to produce that technology, that might just inspire them.
